Home Stay

1) Snapshot

Format: 4 weeks · Homestay in Santiago, Chile · 20 classroom hours/week + activities · Monday–Friday classes, weekend excursions.

Who it’s for: Adults/teens (16+) seeking immersive Spanish with a vetted local host family in safe, well‑connected neighborhoods (Ñuñoa, Providencia, Las Condes, Santiago Centro).

Outcomes: Communicate confidently in everyday situations; expand vocabulary about Chilean culture; improve listening/pronunciation (with focus on Chilean Spanish). Certificate of Completion provided.

Levels: A1–B1 (two tracks run in parallel). Placement test on Day 1.


2) Weekly Learning Plan

Week 1 — Survival Spanish & City Basics

  • Greetings, introductions, numbers, directions, ordering food, transport.
  • Chilean Spanish essentials: “cachai”, “po”, everyday slang.
  • Cultural focus: Santiago orientation walk; safety & transport briefing.

Week 2 — Daily Life & Social Spanish

  • Past & future forms in context; shopping, markets, health & appointments.
  • Pronunciation clinic (yeísmo, s‑aspiration); listening to real accents.
  • Cultural workshop: Chilean cuisine (empanadas), local market visit (La Vega).

Week 3 — Storytelling & Opinions

  • Narrating experiences, giving opinions, comparisons, invitations.
  • Functional tasks: calling/voice notes, messaging etiquette.
  • Cultural workshop: Cueca dance intro + music of Chile.

Week 4 — Projects & Real‑World Tasks

  • Mini‑project: plan a weekend trip (budget, itinerary, bookings) and present.
  • Job/uni scenarios (optional): CV basics, email tone, short presentations.
  • Cultural workshop: Museum/heritage visit (Museo de la Memoria or Bellas Artes).

3) Typical Weekly Schedule (Mon–Sun)

Monday–Friday

  • 08:00–08:45 Breakfast with host family (speaking practice)
  • 09:30–11:10 Spanish Class (Core)
  • 11:10–11:30 Break
  • 11:30–13:10 Spanish Class (Skills: listening/speaking)
  • 13:10–15:00 Lunch break (try local menus; optional teacher‑led outing)
  • 15:00–16:30 Activity/Workshop or Study Hall (Mon/Wed/Fri)
  • 18:30–20:00 Family time: conversation tasks, daily reflection

Saturday

  • Full‑day excursion options (rotating): Valparaíso & Viña del Mar; Cajón del Maipo; Maipo wine valley; Cerro San Cristóbal & Bellavista street art tour.

Sunday

  • Free day with host family or self‑guided exploration (task sheet provided).

4) Activities & Cultural Immersion (included)

  • Neighborhood orientation + metro card setup (Bip!).
  • Street‑food tasting & market Spanish (La Vega/Los Dominicos or similar).
  • Chilean Spanish slang mini‑course (“chilenismos”) with role‑plays.
  • Cooking session: empanadas or pastel de choclo (ingredients shared).
  • Cueca basics + Chilean music playlist challenge.
  • Museum visit or historic center photo‑walk (Plaza de Armas–Lastarria).

Optional add‑ons (extra cost): Concha y Toro/Undurraga winery tour; surf day in Maitencillo; ski day (seasonal); private 1:1 tutoring (5–10 h/week).


5) Homestay Standards

  • Private bedroom (desk, Wi‑Fi), shared or private bathroom.
  • Half‑board on class days (breakfast + dinner) and light lunch on weekends, or full‑board upgrade.
  • Host screening, orientation, and ongoing support line (English/Spanish).
  • Max 2 students per home (separate rooms). Special diets available on request.

6) What’s Included

  • 80 classroom hours over 4 weeks + activity program.
  • Placement test, learning materials, digital workbook & task sheets.
  • Certificate of Completion (attendance ≥ 85% and final project).
  • Welcome pack (SIM card assistance, metro card guidance, city map).
  • Airport pickup (SCL) window 07:00–22:00 on official arrival day.
  • 24/7 emergency contact during stay.

Not included: Flights, travel/health insurance (mandatory), personal expenses, optional add‑ons.


7) Assessment & Support

  • Day 1 placement + goals check.
  • Weekly progress check & feedback.
  • Week 2 mid‑term speaking check.
  • Week 4 final project presentation & exit interview with study plan.

8) Location & Safety

  • Class venues in central, safe areas (Providencia/Ñuñoa/Lastarria corridor).
  • Public transport: Metro lines 1/3/5 near classrooms; Bip! prepaid card setup.
  • Safety briefing (street awareness, payments, trusted apps: Uber, DiDi, Cabify).

9) Admissions & Dates

  • Start dates: Every Monday (year‑round, except national holidays).
  • Age: 16+ (under‑18s require parental consent).
  • Visa: Most students enter as tourists; check Chile’s current entry rules.
  • Language level: Absolute beginners accepted; dual‑track classes.
